Born into a family of humble origins and trained outside formal art schools under the encouragement of Adolfo Tommasi, Giovanni Lomi chose to remain faithful to the Macchiaioli tradition, rooting his style in the teachings of Giovanni Fattori. In this wood panel, a quest for purity and simplicity translates into a painting of wide spaces that maintains a strong adherence to reality, a vibrant luminous sensitivity through a network of pearly colors. The work assimilates the light-based research of Plinio Nomellini, a figure who steered the Livorno tradition toward a more lyrical, chromatic, and Symbolist realism, directly influencing Lomi’s art.
