Born in Salerno and trained at the Naples Academy under the influence of Vincenzo Migliaro, Clemente Tafuri achieves in this work a synthesis that moves beyond the plastic rigor of the 1930s (entries 16 and 31). During the war years, the artist sought refuge with his family in Ravello, where he lived until 1945: a period that consolidated his fame as a portraitist and marked the debut of an exuberant and rapid, lively painting style; for this female portrait, it’s necessary a more discerning critical approach, capable of penetrating the surface of a highly personal "style" that would establish his success both in Italy and abroad.
